Leicester Street, The University of Melbourne

Slattery was engaged to review the PPP tender submissions for this new student accommodation facility. The building includes 648 beds over 14 levels and incorporates 442 prefabricated modular bathroom pods, which helped achieve significant project efficiencies. Also included is a central landscaped area for student use and ground floor retail tenancies. The building was awarded a 5‑Star Green Star design rating.

Project challenges included a site bordered by existing buildings on three sides and removal of hazardous materials. The project has provided us with valuable exposure to the University of Melbourne’s intentions for student accommodation and to innovative strategies that can be included to provide cost efficiencies.
