Over the first half of 2022, Slattery took part in three Coastrek hikes, with teams in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne tackling the 30 kms in support of Beyond Blue.

Coastrek is Beyond Blue’s largest community fundraiser. All money raised helps reduce the impact of anxiety, depression and suicide in Australia by ensuring everyone can access mental health support at the right time. Slattery is passionate about supporting the mental health of not only our staff, but of the wider community, so we looked forward to taking on the challenge again after our 2021 efforts.

Sydney was up first in March, with 3 teams making the trek along the Eastern beaches from Vaucluse to Kirribilli. Our 3 teams of 4 enjoyed a sunny day and managed to raise over $7,000.

Next up was Melbourne in May. Slattery had 5 teams complete the walk, held down on the Mornington Peninsula. The track started and finished up at Point Nepean, with trekkers making their way along the front and back beaches of Portsea and Sorrento. Our Melbourne teams’ fundraising efforts exceeded an astounding $30,000.

Finally, in July, came Brisbane’s turn. Our team walked 30kms from Mudjimba to Noosa, enjoying the finest beaches the Sunshine Coast has to offer and raising over $3,000.

In total, 36 staff participated in the challenge, raising over $40,000 for mental health. To remove the participation barrier, staff accessed a volunteer day instead of needing to take leave. We are incredibly proud of all employees who took part, and grateful for all sponsors.

Bring on 2023!
