Yagan Square
Yagan Square is a landmark project in central Perth that opened in March 2018 and involved a complex redevelopment of the iconic Horseshoe Bridge. This $75M project focuses on connecting the community by linking Northbridge with the City and creating a destination for Perth. This is achieved through the specialised landscaped public realm space and encouraging local food vendors to operate in the market hall.
It is the first significant public place in an Australian city to be named after an Aboriginal person, Yagan, a Whadjuk Noongar leader (c.1775-1833), and a place of reconciliation, elevating Aboriginal culture for visitors. The design process involved extensive collaboration and input from the Whadjuk Working Party and South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council to ensure this project was delivered respectfully.
Our team worked through key challenges that presented to the wider project team. These challenges included creating a meaningful precinct that respected the rich history of the area, working with live rail tunnels, and consideration for the heritage-listed Horseshoe Bridge.
The award-winning and innovative civic precinct covers an area of 12,000m2. Our role included cost management services on the food and beverage tenancies, performance spaces, public transport infrastructure, and civil infrastructure.
