Inner Sydney High School

Slattery was engaged to provide cost management services for the construction of this new vertical school for 1,200 students on the existing Cleveland Street Intensive English High School.  The school caters to a predicted increase in urban growth anticipated in the Inner Sydney catchment area and was constructed as a part of the Department’s Sydney City Schools Strategy. The project included sensitive refurbishment works for the heritage-listed buildings while taking into consideration the existing complex services constraints present on site.
The project was subject to an International Design Competition and is one of the State’s flagship high-rise public high schools.

The budget was a challenge from its early stages with the resubmission of multiple business cases and an inadequate initial budget. The project underwent extensive value engineering and redesign throughout the project development. Through proactive, open, and transparent cost management and project advice, the capital cost stayed current and relevant.
