Multi-age Precinct – Concept Development
Slattery joined forces with Architects Marchese Partners, SGS Economics and Planning and landscape architects Papworth Davies to prepare a new concept for ‘third-phase’ living, a Multi-age Precinct (MAP). Seeking to drive innovation in retirement living planning situated in inner urban/CBD sites, MAP considers an adaptive reuse of an existing hotel site, Quay West in Southbank in the heart of Melbourne’s vibrant arts precinct to demonstrate an ‘ageing in place’ vision. MAPs allow for age and socially diverse community living, are close to transport and services, provide a mix of housing types, sizes and price points and include private and public shared spaces. The MAP concept was inspired by international exemplars to suit Australian communities and addresses isolation as we age by generating connected communities and intentional ‘neighbouring’ in how we live, through high density urban living.
