West Melbourne Court and Custody Complex

It is proposed that the West Melbourne Court and Custody Complex will alleviate the system wide demand pressure on correctional beds, overcrowding of police cells and slow movement through the court systems. This key piece of work is critical in addressing the pressure experienced by CV, Victorian Police and the Courts Victoria and thereby streamlining the judicial system flow through.

The concept for the custody complex is to provide a new type of pre-prison custody that bridges the gap between the primary functions of police cells (holding prisoners to appear in court and pending reception into prison) and prison (programs and services to address risk of re-offending).
